TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Firstly, thank you again for all the wonderful support and feedback that we have been receiving from the school community. We have had some wonderful messages from parents and there have been many kind words about the awesome efforts that all staff have put in during 6 to 8 weeks of the home learning program. I am proud of how prepared we were as a school during this unforeseen situation and the work ethics of our staff members were remarkable.

Distance learning has presented many problems for teachers, students, and their families. The process of logging into a device to access information and then submitting completed work via SEQTA was indeed a challenge. We all tried our best and availed all possible teaching and learning opportunities we could offer. We were successful in delivering our curriculum online with each other’s support. Parents played an important role as they supervised children, supported them in completing all tasks and then uploaded or checked the work or helped in during group correction sessions.

It was a great learning experience for all of us. We have used unfamiliar programs and now we are experts in using Zoom and MyEdOnline! Who would have thought about learning how to use these programs before?

The usual busy time of reporting has arrived, and teachers are in the process of completing Semester 1 reports. For the first time, the school is planning to give digital reports and parents will be able to view them online. Once the reports are ready, parents will be informed, and instructions will be sent out about how to access the online reports. Parents can discuss any issues with teachers either over the phone in Term 3 or they can book an appointment if necessary as we are avoiding any unnecessary visits to the school building.

All excursions, incursions and school camps have been cancelled for Term 3 until further notice due to health and safety concerns.

All teachers will assign online homework for the upcoming term break. Encourage all children to read every day for at least half an hour. They can choose age appropriate books from online ‘Reading Eggs Library’. Encourage them to do maths activities from Mathletics to consolidate concepts learnt at school.

Thank you for your ongoing support and help. Have a fantastic, happy and safe term break!
